FRANCESCA WOODMAN
· Tragic artist, Francesca Woodman, was an
American photographer who’s work focused around herself and other women models.
Her photos depicted blurred images due to movement and long exposures. Her work
is still being unveiled since her suicide in 1981 at the age of 22. It is said
that the artist produced over 800 works of art all produced as a student. The
image below has caught my attention because of her dramatic pose, contrasting
black and white scheme, and the story she is leaving with the audience. I feel
connected to this artist because in most of my work I hold a firm heart for any
kind of high contrast within black and white photos.
· While
researching this artist, I came across a documentary that discusses the life of
the artist as well as her family, “The Woodman's.” The film discusses the
relationship between the parents and their children, the parents’ art and work,
and life leading up to Francesca’s suicide. Researching and watching the film about this artist is one of the best thing to do
