Within
Shadows was the first photobook created by
Susan Burnstine which are photographs define by three themes, “On Walking
Dreams”, “Between”, and “Flight. Concepts derived from her dreams and
nightmares. Inspired by artist such as Duane Michals, Minor White, and Ralph
Gibson, she attempts to engage an allegorical and emotional conception. The
presence of a female are predominantly portrayed within her work weather a
child, young girl or woman, etc… These female figures as she relates to as
surrogates for herself and who are temporarily standing in Burnstines shoes.
Burnstine’s
creative process is all derived from the cameras she constructs and modifies.
Emotion is definitely the message this artist conveys through her photos and is
said the elements of her cameras are considered photographically sub-optimal.
Two links are for the artist main page and “Within Shadows.” Check
out this artist discovery process of her work and get inspired by her abstract
hazy photos.
