Anna Brown reviews Scott Martin

Scott Martin is a Texas photographer who uses his work as an investigation of the world in a way that communicates its nuances and oftentimes hidden qualities. The interaction of light and darkness in his work centered around landscape and nature create an enduring sense of mystery that sparks curiosity in the viewer. When I first came across his body of work, I equated it to the type of perfect landscape image a default background image for a new computer would have.

However, after analyzing more of his oeuvre, it became apparent that each image conjures up an entirely different range of emotions and each has an entirely different mood. Even in his work that contains the human form, it is clear that he has some form of a personal connection to his subjects, which comes across in the way that he portrays each one.

I personally enjoy this body of work because I have interacted with many of these landscapes, and I have visited many of the places he photographs. I am in awe of the way that he has portrayed them, which becomes almost like a set for a movie or even somewhere otherworldly.
