Loretta Lux is a German artist she currently lives and works
in Ireland; Lux began as a painter and that is what she focused on when she was
in school she later began to investigate the visual arts. Lux mainly takes portraits
and scenes of young children. She has a specific color palate in almost all her
photos her artist website is filled with pastels and white based colors. Lux
paints the background of her photos then takes the portraits and manipulates
them to add them to the scene she has created. Her photos often look flat and
are purely 2 dimensional. At first glance it is not obvious that the background
is painted but after investigating a little longer it is noticeable. Lux says
she enjoys taking photos of children because they are to most honest models and
they portray how they feel clearly and is never forced. I enjoy her work
because it is unique and in my opinion she ties in both media’s successfully. Lux
has a specific aesthetic and it is easy to identify her artwork because of its
continuity.
