Margarita Espinoza Reviews Tim MacPherson

Tim MacPherson is a British advertising photographer who uses conceptual themes. MacPherson does not have a big internet presence as a contemporary artist although his work is used by many name brand companies such as Honda, Mcdonalds, Nikon, GQ, and more. His website provides images of his artistic portfolio along with his portfolio of commissioned work and there is an overlap of photographs from projects that are used in both collections. His portfolios describe his body of work with a consistently clean aesthetic style. He uses strong light sources, intentional staging, and posed models. The artist also has an interesting use of color that suggests that the palettes are intentionally chosen to compliment the composition.

MacPherson has a collection of photos in his portfolio that emphasizes the idea of imagination and captures children using household objects to build their wildest fantasies. I think this collection is successful because the idea of imagination is creating new thoughts and being resourceful in result of not having certain things, but the composition of these photos create a complex and overabundance of resourcefulness that emphasize the imaginative nature of children versus adults. I also think this collection is interesting because some of the photos were commissioned by different companies as advertisements but can also stand alone as contemporary artworks.
