Nan Goldin is an American Artist that is known for changing and revamping documentary photography. She was all about honesty and less about the visual aesthetic of the photo which separated her from most photographers at the time , as well as the content of her photos. She usually did photographs that almost had a narrative about the counter culture in the 70s and 80s and usually along the theme of LGBT and public figures. Her photographs are raw and candid and bring controversial subjects up in conversation such as domestic violence, drag queens, etc.
Her work is just so honest to me and show raw human nature in an unposed setup that most photographers don't use. They usually will move stuff around or adjust the scene to what they want instead of having the scene tell them what it wants to say.
