Jackie Nelson Submits Ron Van Dongen
Ron Van Dongen was born in Venezuela and studied photography in San Francisco at The Academy of Art College. What caught my attention was the fact that his subject matter is flowers and somehow they were interesting enough to be put in a gallery. At first glance they just look like close up photos of exotic flowers that are vibrant in color. Not too interesting at first but after reading his artitst statement you learn that these are much more then just flowers he found pretty enough to photograph. Van Dongen has a love for biology and has found a way to incorporate that into his art. He acturally grew all these specimens, which means he planted, watered and waited for them to bloom just to take a photo. All this preperation makes these photos seem more personal and more interesting because of all the time he invested into them.
