Ryan Kirby submits Scott Rhea
Surreal would be the only way to describe Scott Rhea’s photography. Primarily a fashion photographer, his series of underwater images are haunting and beautiful. While they could also easily be from any fashion magazine, they aren’t, they are a stand alone series called An Inevitable Consequence which highlights hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the city of New Orleans. The settings of the photos show different settings one might find in New Orleans, but it seems as though the settings may not be current. They seem as though they are from a half century ago and dressed in attire from that era. As a native of New Orleans, perhaps this was a way to go back to a time when the city still had its innocence and the times were more carefree. There is also a dark side to these photos as the subjects in them appear as if they have drowned and are pale due to their death.
