Kate Breakey was born in South Australia and her work is about presenting death from an interesting point of view. She first got her idea to use birds as her subject when she tried to save one from being killed one day by a cat. The bird ended up dying but she decided that she would embrace its death and bring them back to life through photographing, using oil paint and colored pencils. She works on a larger scale and keeps the birds in their natural positions in which they have died. After enlarging these photos, she paints and draws back all their colorful feathers in a realistic manner which gives the appearance that the birds are still alive. This is a very interesting approach to documenting and accepting death.
