So where do I fit in in all of this? For the most parts it's starting to look like in the past. My work is in the same vain as many of the artists in the Mural Movement, I want to preserve and promote a national identity, but I wish to do so by pulling on the aspects of the individual like my more modern counterparts, while still adhering to the ideals of community and togetherness. While I am willing to experiment with my aesthetic and methods of storytelling, I'm not entirely sure that I am willing to give up complete control.
Another thing I've come to realize is that identity is fluid, not rigid and hard set. My body of work will undoubtedly undergo several stages of change before I ever truly feel that I am satisfied with it, but in the mean time I am glad that I was able to look at my work in a context outside of my studio and outside of my time.
I love that your last post is a try at summarizing the set of artists you have posted. It is good to know where you have been so you can move forward.
