Binh Danh is a photographer from Vietnam who was able to
come over to America in 1979. One of his most famous pieces of work is “Life:
Dead”, which is a series where Danh framed withered leaves with the imprinted
images of fallen soldiers. This idea is very unique and beautiful as well as
very powerful the way he is able to put the fallen soldiers on a withered leaf.
A leaf which can be a sign of life combined with the image of a dead solider
bringing the two together, life and death. The fact that it is a withered leaf
makes it more powerful by having something, a leaf, that is a sign of life but
in an almost dead state. Which combines the statement fallen but never forgotten
since the leaf is not completely dead as are the soldiers, although dead they
are never forgotten
