Robert Mata - Uta Barth

Uta Barth is a contemporary German photographer. Interested in the translation of photographic perception to human perception.
Barth has turned visual perception into the context of her work. Valued for her “empty” photos that skirt near being referred to as painterly abstractions, she thoughtfully defines blurred backgrounds, cropped frames and the naturalistic temperaments of light to capture happenstance and transient moments, those which live almost entirely within our periphery. With a decided irreverence for both the traditional photographic subject and the point-and-shoot role of the camera, Uta Barth’s work carefully unravels conventions of visual representation by drawing our focus to the boundaries of the human eye.

“I keep trying to find ways to shift the viewer’s attention away from the object they are looking at and toward their own perceptual process,”
