Thomas Allen’s series Beautiful Evidence is a meshing of exploring a world of science and elements of the art world using old school books. Automatically referencing 50’s commercial ads, the cut outs add a playfulness and a nostalgic presence. The animation characteristics aids in these images being, feeling and coming alive as if they came from the book itself (in one case it did). Additionally, most of the gestures of the figures are active, further sharing in the aliveness. Each placing of the figure is intentional and seems as if it belongs there originally with the full page and the cut out working with and playing of each other. There is a sense of wonderment and exploration seen in some of the figures’ faces. Drawing attention to the cutouts is the vibrant colors or lack of color contrasted with the rest of the page.
