Vik Muniz was born in San Paulo,Brazil and currently lives and works in New York. Muniz photographs objects in a very unique way, through manipulation. His objects are constructed with temporary materials --trash, paper, chocolate syrup, toys--which are arranged to make an image. What I find exciting about Muniz's work is his creations with ephemeral objects are made permanent through photography. His work combines sculpture, painting and photography into a fascinating new form. These fleeting images are usually made in the form of other artist's work or of iconic images. Above is a self portrait made from various toys entitled, Self portrait(I Am Too Sad to Tell You, After Bas Jan Ader) 2003 and Chocolate Medusa, 2004.
