Blair Bodden submits Patty Carroll

Patty Carroll was born in 1946 and still is currently working in Chicago. She earned her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois (1968), and an Master of Science in Photography at the institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (1972) I read as a child she would travel with her family in the winter to Florida to spend a month. She uses her life experiences in her work redefining moments of American culture. Carroll finds herself drawn to vivid drawn and parts of American culture that viewers might find intriguing. Reading her artist statement Carroll talks about how we as photographers get to observe, document, criticize and make fun of the world and visibly displaying those perceptions in images.
In her image Motel Blues, Las Vegas is a part of Sunset After Dark a collection of dye-transfer prints made in 1978. Dye transfer uses three continuous-tone sheet film plates called matrices. The matrices are soaked in water-based cyan, magenta and yellow dyes. The matrices are rinsed clean of excess dye and squeegeed against a sheet of gelatin-coated paper, much like regular photographic paper but without the silver compounds. The gelatin absorbs the dye from the matrix. Her website is
