Salina Ellis presents Agnes Montgomery

Agnes Montgomery was born in 1977 and is a self taught artist. She collages found images into new designs with different meaning. When she was a child her mother would collage welcome home signs from magazine covers to greet Agnes afte she had visited family.

Her work has been featured on album covers, gallery shows and in several books including The Art Book curated by Anna Wolf. Her album covers she creates while listening to the music it will sheath. She feels this is important.

Her tools are found images, scissors, and a magnifying lamp. The finished work is scanned into the computer for printing onto large canvas. Her attention to detail is apparent in her completed work.

She is currently collaborating on a children's book to accompany her work, perhaps more for the inner child.

I find it interesting that her work uses mainly children. Most of them in precarious situations. She succeeds in creating surreal playlands for her characters.
