Henry Lopez Reviews Jackson McGoldrick

Jackson McGoldrick is a young photographer based in New York who focuses on narrative images.  Although he is beginning to work in a very different style, I am reviewing his work from his first and second books.  His work mixes a supernatural and dark element to them often using nature as a conduit for these moods.  McGoldrick places his young models in these scenes that do vary in mood, but at the same time seem to show them alone and often with a sense of being lost, but also having a dreamlike freedom.
It makes me think of that feeling when you are lost or unsure in life and that it's just you on this journey, yes it's scary and unknown, but you can't help feel like this oblivion could also be full of wonder.  His compositions do dabble in both portraiture and more narrative styles and it just works for the type of images he produces.  With the coloring, the dramatic lighting and the odd storytelling, McGoldrick keeps his images stitched together to form this dark unknown and invites us in.
