Jacqueline Martinez Reviews Jemima Stehli

In Jemima Stehli works she poses herself as both the subject and the object. It is also made clear that she's holding a shutter release button, this shows that she has full authority in her work. This is interesting as a female is both the object and the one who's in control of the photograph. In, After Helmut Newton's 'Here They Come', Jemima Stehli poses as one of the figures clothed; on the right, and naked only wearing heals, on the left. This duality is one that she continues throughout her works. She both captures the pose of Helmut Newton's models as well as his black and white aesthetic. Her work is almost identical to Helmut Newton's original that some say that her photograph now serves as the original.
