Irene Lozano submits Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus is my favorite photographer, therefore I had to post a blog about her work :) . Arbus had a documentary approach to photography that allows the viewer to question not only the subject matter, but the artist her self. I am drawn to the photos of Arbus because they have the ability to provoke and disturb. The subjects of her photos were of people/strangers such as : dwarfs, transvestites, giants, nudist, circus people...ect. She was known to befriend these strangers and document their beautiful imperfections. They allowed her into their most private places as she photographed them. When an Arbus photo is in front of you , you are bound to stare, then question yourself if you should be looking at this image. I respect
and admire the honesty of her photos. She hid nothing from the viewer, she exposed the person for who they are, exposed their flaws. Exposed their unique perfection / imperfections ?
" Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats. "- Diane Arbus
