Angie Restrepo submits Joel Meyerowitz

Joel Meyerowitz is an award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in over 350 exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world. He was born in New York in 1938. As an early advocate of color photography in the mid-60’s, Meyerowitz was instrumental in changing the attitude toward the use of color photography from one of resistance to nearly universal acceptance. In the 1960s-70s the country struggled to regain its sense of direction following the political activism and social idealism, artists & photographers searched to discover new subjects, methods and meanings. Color offered an obvious if indistinct way forward. Some of my favorite prints are these iconic color photographs that capture beautiful constrasting colors with a distinct gentleness depicting American life.
