07 Randi Medina- Giuseppe Circacì

Giuseppe Circacì is a Milan based artist who puts a contemporary spin on classic Renaissance style sketches. He is greatly influenced by Da Vinci's notebook of anatomy and drawings. He creates these mixed media painting and drawing works that involve a classic investigation of anatomy using traditional Renaisasance medium pencil and oil. He places these detailed Da Vinci like anatomy sketches behind incomplete facial portraits that he renders also in a traditional chiaroscuro technique. These works are interesting to me because they are this combination of the past and the present styles of figure rendering. They also reference the Renaissance, an incredible period of resurgence and flourishing of art. These works provide a look at how much art has evolved and grown since that influential period. I believe they pay homage to our past and acknowledge the evolution of contemporary art.
